so i need to know what is the best company to buy a laptop from? The answer to this question will be based on personal opinion - but I have used Dell laptops for the last 6 years, and there has been only one problem - which customer services sorted out quickly.Secondly are laptops upgradable like could i upgrade to the latest GPU say 3 years from now? Also is there any DX10 laptops out? This is a difficult question to answer. The problem is at the moment MOST GPUs for laptops are soldered right onto the motherboard, and so they cannot be removed. However, in the future, we could see GPUs that could be removed and replaced. In fact, this is already released in the form of Nvidia's MXM GPU module for laptops. Also, external graphics cards such as the ASUS XG station have just be introduced. Also is there any DX10 laptops out? Yes, they are out. Only from Nvidia at the moment. You have the 8400MGS and 8400MGT for budget users, the 8600MS and GT for gamers, and the 8700MGT which is the most powerful at the moment. Since all these cards support Shader Model 4, games will be playable for years to come.Hope this helps. Please help me choose a laptop.......... ...
It depends on what you're looking for in a laptop. If you want a gamer machine, you have to know that:
a) It'll cost more than a gaming desktop and won't perform as well.
b) Most laptops cannot be upgraded (other than ram and harddrive) so you will probably be stuck with what you bought today. The only upgradable graphics I've seen are on the very high end machines and only a few models at that. You have to decide what you want and what you can afford. The high performance machines tend to be very expensive and heavy. High performance also usually means that it runs hotter and battery life is shorter.Conversely a lower performing laptop won't game as well but it'll have longer battery life and be substantially lighter. I bought a Dell Inspiron 9400 (17'', Core 2 Duo, 100GB harddrive, 1GB ram, 7900GS video). This is a desktop replacement laptop and while it games well it's really heavy to lug around. I probably should have gotten 2GB of ram, but it was really expensive at the time. Other than that, I've been really happy with my lappy. Here's a link to laptop graphics cards. Usually this is what will limit your game playing experience, not the CPU. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39568My recommended specs for today's machines are:
- Intel Core 2 Duo - best performing laptop CPU....get a 2GHz or higher
- Intel Santa Rosa motherboard chipset - only a minor increase, but what the heck....it's the latest tech
- 1GB ram - get 2GB if you can afford it ....especially if you're going to be stuck with Vista
- 100GB harddrive - or larger...I decided to get a faster one instead (7200rpm) ... you'll have to decide which you'd prefer
- latest video cards - nVidia is 8000 series (I think....not sure about ATI) .... I think they have DX10 features...maybe
when i talked to Alienware they did say it gpu was upgradable.....

does any laptop manufacture etc have the 8700MGT in the laptops yet>?i have a budget of like 4k
The 8700M GT was just announced, so it will probably be available in a few weeks. The best notebook with a 8600M GT right now IMHO is ironicly the macBook Pro 15''. It gets better battery life (~3.5 hrs) than the other 8600M GT laptops, has a LED backlit screen and keyboard, DVI output, and weighs only 5.5lbs with a thickness of 1''. With bootcamp, you can install XP or Vista and you have a highly mobile, sexy gaming laptopthat fits your budget quite well :) If you want a mobile laptop and not a hulking DTR this is it for right now. The only laptop that the 8700M GT has been shown in so far is a 17'' Toshiba (I think) that weighed over 8 pounds. IMHO, if you are buying a LAPTOP it should not be big and heavy, as you might as well just get a desktop.
