Soundcard and speakers question

Hi again guys. My current speakers are old and one is not working. need to buy a new one.I found out that my motherboard's built in soundcard (C-Media) supports 5.1 speakers. Is it good enough? Or do I really need to buy a seperate sound card? Im not really sensitive about quality, as long as it sounds good and delivers. So should I buy a 5.1 speaker set only using the built in soundcard? And if so, which are better 5.1 speakers? Altec Lansing or Creative.

THANKS!!!Soundcard and speakers question
If you not picky sound quality, or you just want to listen to sounds in surround sounds, then the integrated C-Media card is fine. Otherwise, a sound card such as the Creative X-Fi is the way to go.I personally like Creative speakers, my Inspire 5200 doesn't disappoint me, although I wish the subwoofers produced more bass (I find the bass kind of weak, even at high volumes) Soundcard and speakers question
Thanks! So getting those sound cards really changes the quality? And by how much? If its a 20% - 40% change, I rather not.I jus tlove to listen to music, and good audio for games. Even my current 2.1 speakers %26 C-Media soundcardis doing fine, til one speaker stopped responding.
Bump ........
