Here's a sight that updated it's benchies. It's not surpassing the gtx, but its right behind it and definitely above the 8800gts (both versions.) The next patch 7.6 is supposed to be the patch to push the hd2900xt over, but thats just what ive read, take it as you will.As for me, I'm gonna hold off for a bit longer to see what happens.

lol my bad...here
They use Cat 7.4, I thought that's not the lastest driver from ATI.
I also believe that is a early sample card, not a retail one.
The card just seems to do great in specific situations and horribly in others, depending on the exact game and AA/AF level used. Without AA it's generally awesome. This is just the hearsay I've picked up from following the massive 2900XT threads from owners.
Whee drivers.
I think people should wait for a few more months for the R600's drivers to pickup. You shouldn't forget that it took NVIDIA over 6 months to get where it is now. Understanding that, you can see that the 2900 XT, which was designed to compete with the GTS, has managed to outperform the GTS in just one month of driver revisions. Hell, you can see the XT coming REALLY close to the GTX. Just wait for DAAMiT to get its 55nm R650 out the door (hopefully as the 2900 XTX).
Theres also this Call of Juarez dx10 benchmark in which the Hd 2900xt whoops 8800gtx ass, but rumor has it that the benchmark is coded to make the hd 2900xt look good.
the price of the card says everything. If it is not worth it or perhaps it's quite worth the money, since it's close to 8800GTS and it's price drop will come sooner or later.

We will see when some real DX10 titles come. And to that link that somebody posted. I noticed very high frames in all games. I think that they tested games whitout AA and whitout all settings maxed out. I wonder what the result would be whit AA on. Some of you will say that you dont need to have AA on but than whats the point of buying 400+$ price cards if you wont use AA.
Im still shocked at how impatient people are to how it should perform right away perfect. Even with something like the R600. I am sure its a good chunk of first time PCers coming from Consoles to expect a flawless product. Atleast we get the modding community and alwasy the best technology and thats the price you pay for having the best technology sometimes before it can be really pefected and not rushed out to the public. but companie can afford to be a bit lazy in not perfecting the product cause of the internet now. Just download a patch, some new firmware, a new driver, etc.
I personally like the fast changing pace of the computer world.
That was a slightly less than coherent post, but I got the general message. =)
