are these upgrades worth the money? than ...

Hi, im getting the xps m1710 and im wondering, should i spend an extra ?43 POUNDS (im in uk) on upgrading from a 2.0ghz processor to a 2.16ghz processor AND upgrading from the256MB DDR3 nVidia?GeForceTM Go 7900 graphics card to the512MB DDR3 nVidia?GeForceTM Go 7950 GTX graphics card? Thanksare these upgrades worth the money? than ...
The 7950 gtx is currently the best single card for laptops. Its a power hog, but with a 17'' display you can't expect much portablility. The 2 to 2.13 ghz isn't going to make much of a noticable difference, but everything counts. I would go for it.are these upgrades worth the money? than ...
yer, im not bothered about it being portable or not. Will the 7950 handle crysis with decent graphics?
yer, im not bothered about it being portable or not. Will the 7950 handle crysis with decent graphics?
7950 gtx will handle it fine. I'm guessing max settings, although, its not dx10 so it will only be able to play it in dx9. If you wait a bit more, you can probably get a dell 1710 with a geforce 8700 gt. That thing is going to be better then the 7950 gtx and will be dx10 compatible.
oh really? ok cool. Would the 8700 gt come out within the next 2 months? if not, then when is it due for release? (approx)
8700Gt better than 7950GTX??After 8600GTS performance I really doubt it will be better
8700Gt better than 7950GTX??After 8600GTS performance I really doubt it will be better
The reason the 8600's failed was its 128-bit ring bus. The 8700 will probably have 256 bit atleast. We'll have to wait for benchmarks to confirm this though. To the thread creator: If I were you, I would wait and see if the 8700 gt will be better. I would go for the dx10 card anyway if you're on a budget like yours.Edit: I found out that the 8700 does have a 128 bit ring bus >_>
alrite thanks. Any idea of when it will be released?

Im not bothered about it being the best of the best as there will always be better ones. PLUS, this bus thing (soz, im not the most computer lingo advanced guy in the world :() appears to be bad. AND i can get it now without having to wait
I'm not sure, but before 2 months from now :P It looks like the 8700 gt is about 25% faster in games and it also got 10,000 (roughly) in 3dmark05, compared to the 9000 the 7950 gtx got in 3dmark05.
