Ram and overclocking...

Hey, I just have a question... I'm not sure if I heard this incorrectly, but does lowering your RAM speed allow you increase the FSB more stabily? If so, how does this effect the ram? And is it done through the BIOS as well? If not, does RAM have any effect to overclocking? And of course i'm talkign about CPU overclocking. ThanskRam and overclocking...
When you say RAM speed do you mean the timings or the frequency?Ram and overclocking...
Um either or? Will reducing either of them allow me CPU FSB to go higher? I could be completely wrong, but I think i heard something of that sorts on a different post.
i'm no expert by any means, but from whati understand ur aim is to make the ram speeds the same as ur fsb,say for example for fsb is 333, then urram would be 667, ddr, so divide that by 2,,i dont actually think u can decrease the speed of ram, without affecting the cpu,
The FSB and ram speed (frequency) are directly linked... so lowering the FSB of thhe CPU lowers the speed of the RAM depending on the ratio you set. eg. If the ratio is 1:1 (on DDR2 RAM), an FSB of 400mhz on the CPU = RAM frequency of 800mhz (400x2). Then if the cpu multiplier is 8x (for example), the speed is 8x400=3200 (3.2ghz). If you take the ram over its rated speed, (like 900mhz on 800mhz ram), I think you have to loosen the timings but I'm not very sure of the inctricacies of that...
What CPU are you trying to OC?
Its my spare system and I'm just fooling around with it and seeing how fast i can get it. The CPU is pretty crap, Celeron D 347 3.06Ghz and it has 1gb OCZ 800mhz (2x512). Right now, i have the celeron at 4.6Ghz stable with idle temp @~41C.. I do a awesome aftermarket cooler (Gemini II w/ 2 120mm fans) which i bought for both of my systems... I tried increasing the FSB on it even more but it wasn't stable... Right now the FSB is 200x23 (rated at 800).... I believe i can go a lot higher because of This and I blieve i have all the right stuff to get to it... Any suggestions?
lol 7ghzYou'd need amazing cooling for that... liquid nitrogen probably! You'd also need a lot of luck, all chips overclock differently, depending on a lot of things...
And he prolly does, but theres gotta be a way to push mine farther than 4.6... i mean idle temp is 40C so I dont think heat is an issue yet...
Eh I dunno.. have a search around for a guide or some results to go by.4.6ghz is pretty high if you ask me...
