Standard -VS- Widescreen

Lets take counter-strike as an example. Can you see more when you play on widescreen than when you play on standard. If you cannot see more stuff onscreen with widescreen, I will stick with standard everytime...Vertical rezolution is what i am going for. If I want 1024 lines of Vert Rez on standard(1280x1024), a mid range computer can handle this much better on standard than on widescreen(1600x1024). ALSO, you dont have to look as far left and right to see the edge of the screen... any thoughts on this? Standard -VS- Widescreen
Some games show you more, most, however, adjust the field of view (FOV). Which mean, in essence, you see LESS in widescreen. It zooms the image and cuts off a bit of the top and bottom to give you a wide view. There is a Widescreen Gaming Forum website that lists all the major games and whether they give you ''true'' widescreen or just a FOV adjustment.Standard -VS- Widescreen

Well, really it's a matter of preference. I'm asian, so a Widescreen monitor feels normal to me, and a fullscreen feels ...cramped. (JK about the asian comment). I like widescreens, because I do audio work, and I have a wider screen to arrange windows on. The problem with some games in WS, is like on R6V, I'm forced to play a 800 x 600 and now my view is always stretched out.
The human eye layout is naturally panoramic, IIRC. Widescreen is just more 'natural,' FOV aside.



I'm using a 4:3 20'' LCD monitor, and I'm seriously wanting to get a widescreen something - though going to a 20'' WS seems like a lateral step, if not a downgrade.
The size and resolution of the monitor have nothing to do with how big of a ''view'' you have - IF the game supports widescreen by adjusting the FOV, then a widescreen monitor, even 2560x1600, shows you LESS view than a 1024x768. If, on the other hand, the game has TRUE widescreen support, then you do get a wider view at the sides. Go here http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/ and look up the game you are interested in to see how it supports widescreen resolutions, and read the FAQ to learn about FOV.
Like the guy above said, widescreen does feel more natural. I'm typing this message on a 180 MHz Pentium Pro, which of course uses a 4:3 monitor (with a bubble in the middle). Everything just looks so...square. Well, except for the bubble. Many movies are made for widescreen displays, so if you like watching movies, the choice is obvious. Some games are actually better on a 4:3 display, but it depends on the game.
Of course, you can keep your current monitor and use it in games that don't have true widescreen. :D

If you go widescreen you will first wonder how you went without it so long, and you willshudder when thinking of goingback. I think of it as surround sound. Like the posters above said it just seems natural to the eye and like surround sound it seems to engulf you, immersing you in whatever it is you are doing.
ohfov doesnt sound too good, + widescreen is more taxing on system cause more pixels
