My drivers do not update!

For some reason now my Counter strke source will not work until I update my drivers which never happened before. I need to update my card to version 8.28. (I'll give full info at the end) Steam has told me to go to my manufacterer's site which I did, I then preceded to search my computer which came up sucessful and I found my drivers (I'll show link at end) So I downloaded the drivers they said to go to 8.17 and ran the installer, restarted my computer didn't work. I went to devide manager, right clicked card and went update drivers, restart, didn't work. Please help me, I have no idea what to do.

Error message on Steam:

Display Drivers: Failed
Your ATI display drivers are currently out of date
For updated drivers click here
Display Adapter: ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 SERIES (I know)
Display Version: 6.14.10.6571
Recommended Driver Version: 8.282
Recommended Driver Date: 08/21/2006
Severity: Very High

uninstall the previous one. restart machine. new hardware wil b detected...giv the path of the driver location. install it. done!My drivers do not update!
how do I uninstall the previous ones? Can you kinda do a step by step, I'm really bad at this stuff

[/QUOTE] first you need to downlaod the drives, here is a link to ithttp://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/integrated-xp.htmlonce downloaded, uninstall the old ones, restart, once restarted, cancel any new hardware found wizards, then click on the exe for the new drives and follow the on screen instructions.
those are 32bit xp so if you have a different os you will have to download the driver for whatever os you have

ok, I did everyting you said, I uninstalled my display drivers, restarted my comp, all that stuff came out about new hardware found, then I updated the drivers that I got from my manufacturer's site and installed those, restarted it.

It did not work! My damn drivers are the same still! Help =[

You know.. you don't HAVE to update the driver. Valve just recently put in that ''you drivers are not up to date'' message and for some reason, they still come up if they are up to date. That's what happened to me, and i just hit ''continue anyway''. Valve just put that message there as a friendly ''reminder'' to get everyone to update their drivers.

[/QUOTE] well It's probably they are the same drivers as you already had. you did click on the aplication icon for the drver that you downloaded? If you just used the windows new hardware found wizard it will have installed really old drivers.
