Need Help Fans Start Then Stop!

when i first built my pc it would not turn on it just started the fans up, beeped and turned off. the second time it started smoking and i realized i had put one too many metal spacers in and it touched the mobo during the first power on and fried a nice little burn. however after fixing everything it still gives me the same beeping noise and the fans still start then stop. i unplugged the processor and guess what the system boots up perfectly. but i plug it back in and i get the same beeping noise so something tells me there is something wrong with one of the rails in my PSU or there is something wrong with the processor (installed perfectly triple checked) or mobo.

i could really use some input here.

it's an XFX 680i (RIP?) :( with a Q6600 with maxorb cooling fan (yes i put thermal grease) with a 750W thermaltake PSU.''

it burned the chassis on my thermaltake armor below that spot and that's why i think it short circuited but the same problem is still occurring.

what pisses me off is that now it shuts down because there is no good power signal but that one time it didnt get that and it just smoked the thing. i'm not sure what to call the part that got eaten but it's right above the processor covered by a heatsink. not towards the I/O but the top of the mobo looking face down the part on the top.

any suggestions are greatly appreciated.Need Help Fans Start Then Stop!

Sounds like you smoked your motherboard man, especially if theres burn marks on it like you said

yep the northbridge. some of it is burned. im coming to the conclusion it was a defect mobo because it shouldnt smoke like that. it wouldn't even turn on in the first place and when it did it smoked the northbridge. my processor is totally fine my video card is in great shape beeps when theres no power. ram is fine. everything is good except the mobo. i think i can convince tigerdirect (there's a warehouse about 10 min from my house) that it was a defect because it didnt happen after messing with settings, the instant i turned the sucker on the second time it smoked up the whole room.

I used to be 30mins from NCIX.com (when in Vancouver) and 10 mins from memoryexpress.com when in Calgary. I am now 3hours (live in Kelowna) from NCIX.com and 7hours from memoryexpress.com
